2006 Long Island Tribe Inaugural Season
Charter Members of the Garden State Football League (GSFL)
In our first year of existence the LI Tribe had only won one game. Although our record showed three wins this particular season, two of those wins were by forfeit, and we only care to mention the ONE game that was played and that was our very first franchise victory.
Despite our record for this season, the LI Tribe was the only team of the five teams new to the GSFL that year to survive the entire season without folding. In fact, we the LI Tribe were the ONLY First-Year team out of the five teams new to the GSFL that year. The other four teams had already been in existence in lesser leagues. We had persevered through the same hardships that our counterparts could not.
The hardships of 2006 and our ultimate survival was the birthplace of Tribe Loyalty, Determination, and our Refusal To Die Mentality which carried us through the 2006 Season and into 2007.
In 2006 our Roster on paper was approximately 35 players. What we had learned over the course of that season was that only 18 of those players were truly committed to each other and Tribe Football. Due to some injuries, and necessary absences, our final game against the Shore Bulldogs was played with only 13 players!!! Playing against a stacked Bulldog squad of 50 players, and on the road, the LI Tribe played a proud 6-27 loss, and forged the bonds during this adversity which would bring every one of these warrior brothers back for 2007.
And our story continues....Click Here for the 2007 Season Recap.
